Dr. Donald M. DeDonato, MD
After graduating Cum Laude from the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, Donald DeDonato left his home in Connecticut to attend Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He was elected President of his medical school class and Loyola representative to the Association of American Medical Colleges. A Phi Beta Kappa inductee in college, his academic accomplishments were further recognized with his appointment to Alpha Sigma Nu, an honor society at Loyola University. He received his medical degree in 1977 and went on to complete his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ohio State University Hospital where he served as Chief Resident from 1980-1981.
Dr. DeDonato is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Clinical Instructor at Northwestern University Medical School. He is on staff at Northwest Community Hospital where he holds the distinction of performing the first laparoscopic –assisted vaginal hysterectomy as well as the first DaVinci robotic hysterectomy. He is also on staff at Northwest Surgicare. As founding partner of Northwest Women’s Consultants, Dr. DeDonato actively serves on numerous hospital committees and is frequently asked to speak in the community on such topics as contraception, menopause, osteoporosis and endomethrial ablation. He currently limits his practice to gynecology and has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic techniques. Dr. DeDonato has been featured in the Consumers’ Guide to Top Doctors. He was selected by Castle Connolly Medical Limited as one the Chicago Metro Area Top Doctors in 2003. In January 2011, he was featured in Chicago Magazine as a “Top Doctor” for Women.
A dedicated family man, Dr. DeDonato makes his home in Inverness with his wife, Susan, and their son, David. His older son, Mark, and his wife, Sarah, live nearby. He is an avid traveler and photographer and is a past president of his local camera club.
