Bridgette Blazek, MDDr. Blazek

Dr. Blazek grew up in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago, and then went on to college at Illinois Wesleyan University where she majored in biology.  She moved into the city and attended medical school at Rush Medical College.  She completed her residency training at Indiana University in Indianapolis in 2005.  She joined Northwest Women’s Consultants that summer and met her husband, Steve within her first weeks of private practice!  Steve is a detective for the Chicago Police Department, so they live on the Northwest side of Chicago with their three dogs.  Even though it’s on the opposite side of town from her childhood home, she still enjoys spending lots of time with her family, especially her two nieces.  She and her husband enjoy traveling, golfing, and bike riding or walking around their neighborhood.  Dr. Blazek is a huge Cubs and Bears fan and can be found at Wrigley Field often during the summer months (unfortunately, she married a Sox fan!).  She recently took up yoga and loves the relaxation it brings.

During residency, Dr. Blazek had the honor of being elected Administrative Chief Resident and also was involved in resident education.  Her research project in resident education was presented and honored at the national Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics meeting.  Her paper from this project was published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  At Northwest Community Hospital, Dr. Blazek is involved in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s initiative in perinatal care.  As part of this project, she works with nurses and a hospitalist physician to educate the Ob/Gyn department and work to improve safety and communication on our Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby Units.  She was also a member of the Physician Advisory Council which hopes to someday bring an electronic medical record system to the physicians at NWCH.

Dr. Blazek’s practice encompasses the full spectrum of women’s health.  She has special interests in:

  • Abnormal uterine bleeding (too heavy and/or too frequent periods) /uterine fibroids and the less invasive options for treating these conditions
  • Adolescent medicine
  • Treatment of menopausal symptoms
  •  Infertility care.
Practice philosophy:
" Chances are I, or someone close to me, has gone through many of the health issues that you face, be it trouble with your menstrual cycle, trouble getting pregnant, difficulty with mood swings or feeling happy, cancer diagnoses in you or someone in your family….I try to use my past experiences to bring empathy and compassion (and sometimes a sense of humor!) to patient care.  It is my goal to stay as up to date as possible in regards to new medications, treatment options, and recommended practices for the medical conditions that I treat.  I then am able to educate you regarding your options and what you might expect from treatment so that you can make the best decisions about your health care.  My favorite part of my job is having my patients return to see me each year—to hear what’s going on in their lives and with their health.  This helps me to treat the “whole” patient and make sure they are staying up to date with their preventative care.
